Since   2009,   once   a year  on   February organized  by  Live  to  love   a humanitarian  association created by Gyalwang Drukpa, an eye camp has been taking   place   under the supervision  of the nuns at   the  Druk White   Lotus,  built   by   Surya   association Drukpa   suisse,  in   Amitabha`s   monastery compound.

People suffering from cataracts arrive by trucks  and buses from distant villages, through organisations such as the local Red Cross.

In Nepal' congenital cataract is frequently found among the disadvantaged. Patients are  given lunch and diner and stay overnight at the clinic

                IIMPROVING LIVES

No hands and one missing leg are no obstacles for this young

artist to express

his artistic needs

in teaching

the chidren

how to accept

and live with

their disability

During the first years, Amrit took in both boys and girls but now he prioritises girls as they are the ones who suffer the most.

Disabled children are mostly not accepted in the government schools, as they may soil  their  names. To  avoid any discrimination they all go to a private  school where  the teaching  is  far  better  and english  more fluent. If boys can survive  in   the  streets, for girls there is no future.

They cannot be married or sold and their families are mostly too poor to afford education and medical expenses, such as  prosthesis and regular controls.

During the years spent at the Nepali Little Birds centre with  a no risk hygiene environment  be it personal, household or kitchen

they learn hygiene which  should have a profound influence on health,  inequality  and  nutritionand a   determinant  impact  on  birth  control, later   marriages,   more  spaced  pregnancies and to the survival  of  mothers and   children.
